Boiling and Freezing Bodies Two Bizarre New Funeral Practices

Since the very beginning of time, humans have been fascinated with death and obsessed with burying rituals of the beloved and expired. We have placed the dead in mausoleums, underground, in temples and pyramids, in specimen jars, rolled out in college classes, trotted on horseback, we have photographed them, saluted them, mummified them, transformed them into saints and, more recently, cremated them.
Like no other species under the sun, we have been bewitched by the sheer creativity of how to handle, discard or memorialize the dead. In essence, we have come so far in history and yet regressed greatly when it comes to holding human life precious, sacred or with dignity or respect.
Creative burials are still being invented. These latest two burial practices have just come to fruition - and one is not even available in the U.S. yet.

Olympic Medal Stolen

Olympic skeleton champion Tristan Gale says her '02 gold medal, ring stolen by burglars
By Associated Press

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (AP) — The winner of the women's skeleton at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics says her gold medal has been stolen.
Tristan Gale Geisler says her medal, Olympic ring, engagement ring, computers and other possessions were taken during a break-in at her Southern California home Wednesday.
Police in Oceanside, Calif., confirmed Thursday that an investigation is under way.
Competing under her maiden name at the time, Geisler helped American sliders sweep the skeleton golds at Salt Lake nearly nine years ago, when the sport returned to the Olympic program after a 54-year absence.
If the medal is deemed to be lost, there are contingency policies in which Geisler could have her Olympic prize reissued.

Serial killer Rodney Alcala may face murder charges in New York cases

BY Melissa Grace, Simone Weichselbaum and Rich Schapiro
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Convicted serial killer Rodney Alcala, already condemned to death row in a string of Southern California slayings, will probably be taken to New York to face charges in the slaying of two women there in the 1970s.
On Thursday, Manhattan Dist. Atty. Cyrus Vance Jr. announced that a grand jury had voted to indict Alcala on murder charges in the deaths of two young women that Vance said “have haunted New York since the 1970s.”
Alcala is charged with the murder of Cornelia Crilley, a 23-year-old flight attendant who in 1971 was raped and strangled with her stockings in her apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
He is also charged with the slaying of Ellen Hover, also 23 and a young Manhattan socialite and daughter of a Hollywood nightclub owner, who was found dead in 1977, not far from her family’s estate in Westchester County.
Authorities long suspected Alcala in both cases, but it wasn’t until the district attorney's “cold case” unit reexamined the files, re-interviewed old witnesses and pieced together new evidence, Vance said, that they had enough evidence to bring the case to a grand jury.
Alcala was convicted last February of murdering four women and a 12-year-old Huntington Beach girl during a killing rampage in Los Angeles and Orange counties in the late 1970s. He was sentenced to death by the same jury a month later.
It marked the third time he was sentenced to death for the murder of 12-year-old Robin Samsoe, last seen alive riding her bike to ballet class in 1979.

"They returned to their suite for some privacy and a romantic candlelit dinner. Alex has made no secret of the fact he wants a child too, so they are hoping to conceive as quickly as possible."
Katie, aka Jordan, was given away by two gay friends at a 20-minute ceremony on Tuesday.
