British director Charles Jarrott dies in LA at 83

British director Charles Jarrott, who won a Golden Globe for helming the 1969 Richard Burton drama Anne of the Thousand Days, has died. He was 83.

Jarrott died Friday in Los Angeles, The Associated Press reports.
A London native, Jarrott got his start in television in 1954 before moving into feature films in the '60s. He was best known for directing costume dramas, including Anne of the Thousand Days and Mary, Queen of Scots. The two films earned 15 Oscar nods between them, but Jarrott was never Oscar-nominated.
Jarrott also won an Emmy in 1995 for the TV movie A Promise Kept: The Oksana Baiul Story.
His other credits include Poor Little Rich Girl: The Barbara Hutton Story, The Other Side of Midnight and Lost Horizon.
